Nuclear Plant Development In Malaysia

29 April 2008
TNB Board approved 3 teams/committees for setting up the plan. They are:

  • Nuclear Energy Taskforce
  • Nuclear Interest Group
  • External Nuclear Advisory Panel
29 August 2008
TNB Board agreed to rename:
  • Nuclear Energy Taskforce to Nuclear Energy Unit
  • Nuclear Interest Group to Nuclear Pre-Project Team
RM2 million budget in FY2008/09 was approved to carry out a list of proposed planning & preparatory activities.

9 September 2008
TNB gave approval to engage CRA International for a White Paper on Nuclear Roadmap for Malaysia. 

December 2008
TNB Research commenced Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Site Survey to develop NPP Siting Methodology and its application to identify potential NPP sites in Peninsular Malaysia.

June 2009
TNB management gave approval to collaborate with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to undertake a Nuclear Preliminary Feasibility Study. TNB has MOU with KEPCO & nuclear power development is one of agreed areas of cooperation.

Agreement between TNB-KEPCO was signed. The 12 months Pre-FS collaboration is expected to end in June 2010.

July 2009
The study of potential siting has completed.

2010
