Here are some facts about it:

- Been operating since 28 June 1982.
- TRIGA stands for Training, Research, Isotopes, General Atomics.
- The reactor is a pool-type and is capable to generate 1MW of electricity.
- No incident has yet to occur after 29 years been operating.
- It has been gazetted as Restricted Area 1 under Malaysian Federal Law and Category 1 Key-point Target under state law.
- Demineralised water acts both as coolant and neutron moderator, while graphite acts as a reflector.
- Uses uranium zirconium hydride (UZrH) as the fuel.
- UZrH has a large prompt negative thermal coefficient of reactivity. In simple words; as the temperature of the core increases, the reactivity will rapidly decreases. Core meltdown is unlikely to happen, although not impossible1.
